Whiteboard Wisdom: Three Keys to Success

You can be motivated, inspired, and full of passion, but if you are not consistent, persistent, and patient, failure will find you.

No matter what journey you are on or what goal you have set, nothing will happen if you are not Consistent, Persistent, and Patient

-

The key to consistency is a process and purpose. A process is the essence of consistency because if you do not have a process, you have random. Random actions do not create enough momentum to get you ahead. Eventually, your luck will run out, or due to a lack of a process your patience will wear out when success becomes fleeting and you will quit. Show up, get to work, and repeat, then repeat, then repeat some more. Purpose is necessary because it will keep you consistent. A purpose is your purpose. It does not have to be altruistic, it just has to get you up in the morning and keep you excited along the way. The purpose is the driver of the process.

-

Persistent is a must. Like we have talked about before, failure and set backs are going to happen. If you cannot handle failure and setbacks, you will quit. And you may quit just as you were about to break through. The easiest way to handle set backs is to plan for them. Be mentally prepared. Know they are going to happen. You will not know when they are going to happen, but just get yourself mentally prepared so you can handle them when they arrive. Nothing will get you more prepared for setbacks then a process. Consistent actions will allow you to get right back to what has worked the majority of the time when a failure or setback happen. Keep pushing, because if you consistently persist, success will be yours.

-

Patient. You must be patient. Most people can handle the first two, but being patient takes too long. You have to be willing to sacrifice time, money, and maybe some sleep (not too much sleep) in order to get the life you want. For example, when I decided to invest in multi-family properties I was making a decision that would greatly impact my life and my families life in 10-15 years. I decided to take money I could use right now and put it into real estate so my future would be considerably better than my present.

-

Other things that you may be building or working toward like a business or promotion may not happen on your time frame. This is so important to understand. Because if it is worth it, you will be patient, and if it isn't you will move on. If you are on purpose, being patient will not be a problem. Please understand there is a huge difference between patience and waiting. Waiting is passive. Waiting is sitting around and hoping something happens.

-

Patience is working hard day after day. Patience is allowing what you have worked so hard for to come to fruition. If you know you are on the right track, be patient and you will win.
